Review, Interview and Photos from the EP Launch - Wohomusic.net

Review, Interview and Photos by Fliss Williams

4th November 2010 – Bedroom Bar, London

Having picked one of the coolest band names to date in the moniker ‘50ft Woman’ to say I was expecting big things from this larger than life band is no understatement. So when travelling to the trendy Bedroom Bar on Thursday night for the launch of the 50ft Woman’s new EP ‘Menage a Trois’ I was looking forward to being part of something very exciting indeed.

EP Launch Photos and Mugshots up now!

For those of you who couldn't make it, or have been away on planet Zarg, we decided to celebrate our EP release (Ménage á Trois) with a special party at the Bedroom bar in Shoreditch. A capacity crowd celebrated with us and our special guests THE SCRATCH, with delightful performances from our Burlesque Beauties, MS BEA DEVILE and MS HARLOT DEVILLE A great time was had by all, with cakes, sweets, goody bags and prizes for best shoes; everyone went home happy!

We also decided to capture the night and pay homage to our EP cover mugshots by asking our guests to make their own mugshots; you can see the best ones HERE.

And so, after a teensy revamp we now have fantastic live shots from the EP launch at the Bedroom Bar, HERE, plus new pin up gallery and some more additions to our other galleries too, with more to come next week!

There is also a review from Rumbles and Grumbles here.

EP Review - Gobshout.com 8/10

Highlight from the new review:

A band with such a strong visual brand really needs strong music behind them to distance themselves from being just a gimmick. Fortunately, 50ft Woman are no such gimmick. Reminiscent of Garbage at their finest, with hints of Blondie, The Ramones, and The New York Dolls, it’s a combination that just can’t fail. With only three songs on their Ménage a Trois EP, it leaves you crying out for more.

You really DO want to read the rest, we are really rather chuffed!

See it in all its glory here.

Live Review - EP Launch Party!

Rumbles and Grumbles' Simon came along to our party and behold, reviewed said bash too ...

"So to mix the live review and the EP together - imagine the good bits from Sleeper, Garbage and Elastica with a bit more attitude, and taller and you wouldn't be a million miles away from them.
I think you could use the NSFW tag for many of their lyrics, but they are delivered in such a way that you find yourself singing along and then suddenly realising what you are mouthing."

EP Reviews - A bumper pack!!!

We have a marvellous collection of reviews for you this morning ... the morning of the RELEASE of the EP - woohoo! Here are some snippets - to read the full review click on the links!

Firstly we feature in Singles Of The Week on IndieLondon (bottom of the page)

"If anything, it has an early Garbage quality and is pretty darn catchy, with some similarly well delivered lyrics. A mixed bag then… but one that’s certainly worth further investigation." Read Full Review

"And, initially 50ft Woman could easily be classed as B movie kitsch, as they are fronted by Minki ‘a 6ft diva’ with a passion for very high heels. In photos and on stage that’s fine but with only a plastic disc to go on we need more. Luckily there is some real substance here. [Minki has] a fine voice that ranges from sleazy backstreet slut mode to god fearing nun. In fact the whole band’s performance is solid. " Read Full Review

Live Music Scene
"50ft Woman are creating a sound which is full of energy and charisma, making this collection of songs an organic and original, an experience which is bound to make them truly stand out from their peers. It is difficult to sum up 50ft Woman in a short, snappy sentence, but one thing I have noticed is how much the band grows on you with every listen. Each time you listen back you will begin to notice the impressive guitar work or a good lyric, and that makes this band instantly memorable. The EP is definitely worth a listen and hopefully we will be hearing more from these guys soon." Read Full Review

"This London based, lurid life exposing London based quintet show here that they possess variety and some needed mystery. This should afford them the chance to make it out of the capital and into the public domain." Read Full Review
